Sterzing's coaching team: One stays, the other goes

The Wipptal Broncos' season in the Alps Hockey League has been over for two months. Since then, the Wild Horses' management has been hard at work preparing their team for the new championship season. Now comes perhaps the most important news.

A very important person was able to be kept in the Wipptal: Head coach Johan Sjoquist will also be on the bench next season. This will be the Swedish coach's third season in the Fuggerstadt.

Since taking over in the 2023/24 season, the Broncos have seen many positive developments. The 49-year-old has reached two semifinals in the Alps Hockey League (to date, the best result since the league's founding) and a semifinal in Serie A. Under his leadership, the local players in particular have been able to develop further.

Head coach stays until 2027

Sjöquist signed a two-year contract and will remain with the Broncos through the 2026/27 season.

The proven coach will have to do without his closest confidant in the future: assistant and goalie coach Aron Kecskemeti will return to his native Hungary. The 32-year-old was also part of the coaching staff for two seasons. However, Kecskemeti will not leave the club completely: The man from Budapest will continue to work in the Wild Horses' social media department.
