Penalty Festival: Buam take revenge on the Eagles

On September 21st, Jamie Russell's team led 54-4 in the Meran Arena until the 1th minute, before the Eagles started a comeback that was thought impossible and won the game in overtime. The boys have since found their form and proved who is boss on Saturday in Klobenstein. They won a turbulent game in which 44 penalty minutes were handed out, 5-3.

It was the Eagles who got off to a better start in front of more than 800 spectators. In the first power play, Skate Skalde deflected a shot from Teruto Nakajima, making it 1-0 for goalie Colin Furlong. In the middle of the first period, the Buam also got into the game and turned the result around: first, Jakob Prast was ideally served by Alan Lobis and scored in the short corner to make it 1-1, then Spinell scored a curious goal when the puck somehow made its way to him via Robert Öhler and Adam Giacomuzzi and he put it into the goal.

Merano managed to make it 140-2 just 2 seconds after the middle period began, when David Trivellato held his ground on the left boards, played the ball to Aron Golser in the middle, and he didn't hesitate. The answer came immediately: Marco Insam was served perfectly by Eric Hjorth during the power play, the defender had plenty of time to get the puck in place and nailed it into the top corner. As a result, things got increasingly rough. Both teams had chances to score, especially in the numerous power plays, but no further goals were scored.

It goes up and down In the final third, Ritten had to play with two men less on the ice and just then they scored 4:2. First, the blue-reds defended their goal with iron determination, then Robert Öhler jumped on a puck and passed it straight to Spinell, who had just returned from the penalty box and remained ice-cold in front of Rigoni. Meran did not give up and came back through Daniel Gellon, who deflected a shot into the goal in front of Furlong. Hjorth put the finishing touches with another power play goal.

HC Gherdëina celebrated an important success, beating their direct table neighbours Celje 4:3 away, thus ending a losing streak that had lasted five games. Teppo Kivelä's team had to play catch-up - as so often this season. Yuri Cristellon, who only had to hold out his stick after a Mustonen pass, and Diego Glück, who benefited from a fine pass from Pitschieler, secured the 2:2 draw after the second break. In the final third, Stephan Deluca (follow-up shot) and Vili Laitinen (individual action) paved the way to victory. Goalie Paul Hofer & Co. held on to the win in the final minutes.

Sanvido scores four goals Meanwhile, the Wipptal Broncos are getting better and better - thanks to one player: Connor Sanvido. The Italian-Canadian, who had collected seven points in the last three games, led the Wildpferde to an undisputed 7:2 victory over the Red Bull Juniors on Saturday with a five-pack. Curiously, the Salzburg team scored their first goal after just 53 seconds. But they were then literally overrun by Wipptal's legionnaires. James Livingston, Adam Capannelli and the outstanding Sanvido gave Johan Sjöquist's team their third win in the last four games.

At the same time, the Unterland Cavaliers were defeated by title contender Jesenice. Tobias Brighenti & Co. lost 2:9 after winning the last two games in Jesenice. Backup Laurin Foppa had to reach behind him four times after 14 minutes and made way for Tizian Giovanelli after the first break. The goalkeeper change did not have the desired effect, however, as the regular number 1 conceded five goals in the remainder of the game. Daniels Murnieks and Michael Sullmann scored the consolation goals for the guests.

In the first game of the Alps Hockey League (AlpsHL) season, HC Meran inflicted an extremely bitter defeat on the Rittner Buam. On Saturday evening, the reigning champions took revenge.
