Mourning at HC Meran: Former coach dies

HC Meran mourns the loss of its former coach Kim Collins, who passed away at the age of 62.

In the middle of the current AlpsHL season, HC Meran is shocked by tragic news: former coach Kim Collins died on Wednesday at the age of 62. The German-Canadian was on the coaching bench for the Adler in the 2021/22 season before being replaced by Massimo Ansoldi in February. Collins was also head coach at HC Pustertal (2015/16).

As a player, the Canadian initially played in North American college leagues before moving to Germany, where he collected points in the second and third leagues for over ten years. Collins remained true to this direction as a coach and took on responsibility for numerous Central European teams. In the EBEL, he gained valuable experience with the teams Jesenice and the Black Wings Linz. His engagement with the Adler almost two years ago was to be his last position as head coach.

On social media, HC Meran remembered its former coach on Thursday evening with the following message: "We have unfortunately received some sad news. Our former coach Kim Collins passed away yesterday at the age of 62. We look back on the wonderful time we spent together in our first Alps Hockey League season and express our sincere condolences to friends and family. Rest in peace."
