Bitter Andergassen anniversary: defeat in the 500th HCP game
The duel between HC Pustertal and the Vienna Capitals on Saturday evening was dominated by captain Raphael Andergassen, who played his 500th game for the Wolves. To the chagrin of the center, the Black and Yellows lost the racy six-point game, in which the referees came under fire from the fans, after a penalty shootout.

He comes from Kaltern, learned to play ice hockey there, but has long been an integral part of the HC Pustertal squad: Raphael Andergassen. Number 40 was only the eighth HCP player to reach the 500 mark on Saturday. In a few weeks, another player will join this select group, as Daniel Glira has played 491 games. But this evening belonged entirely to Andergassen. Despite a promising start, he was in no mood to celebrate, as the Wolves lost 2:3 on penalties.
This is bitter because Jason Jaspers' team had to serve two match penalties after a good start within a very short space of time. Ivan Deluca was sent to the showers for checking the boards, while Cedric Lacroix was penalized for a check to the head. The 2-0 lead that Vienna had had at one point was gone after two power play goals. This spurred the Wolves on. They came out of the locker room with a lot of commitment and were the dominant team in the final third. However, because the HCP acted extremely carelessly, the game went into overtime and finally into a penalty shootout, in which Vienna came out on top.
For Pustertal, the one point is a bitter disappointment, because the Wolves were the better team - with the exception of the middle third, which was marked by penalties. But anyone who misses so many opportunities will be punished in this league. The Wolves should have realized this before this game.
The highlights
Always Tommy | In an uneventful first third, Purdeller provides the first highlight – and also the first goal. The number 34 moves to the middle, delays skillfully and catches goalie Sebastian Wraneschitz between his pads (13th). |
Beautifully played | When two delicate technicians combine, good things usually come out of it: Jason Akeson crosses for Brett Findlay on a counterattack, who only has the empty goal in front of him - 2:0 (25'). |
Geez | Pustertal seems to have everything under control, but makes life difficult for itself with two match penalties: The Wolves can kill in the first five minutes, but Zane Franklin and Jeremy Gregoire then score within 70 seconds (36th/37th). |
Weak power play | The Wolves were able to play with a man advantage three times in the final third, but nothing came of it. The best chance of the third fell to Matthias Mantinger, set up by Gustav Bouramman, five minutes before the end. |
unlucky Pasquale | Goalkeeper Eddie Pasquale made outstanding saves during the game, but two attempts slipped through his legs in the penalty shootout. It was a bitter blow, because Viktor Svedberg had put the home team in front with a beautiful feint. |
Fabian Gschliesser & Co. now have an international break before the away game against league leaders Fehervar on December 20th (19.15:16 p.m.). HC Bozen will host Olimpija Ljubljana on Sunday (XNUMX p.m.).
