NHL show in Prague: Devils win season opener

The opening game of the world's best league, the North American NHL, took place on Friday evening in the Czech capital, one of Europe's major ice hockey metropolises.

During the NHL Global Series in the sold-out O2 Arena in Prague, the New Jersey Devils defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4-1.

The winners' most successful scorers were Swiss superstar Nico Hischier, as well as Jonathan Kovacevic and Paul Cotter, each with one goal and one assist. The Sabres' only goal was scored by Owen Power.

Before the match, an NHL legend made his big appearance. Jaromir Jagr performed the symbolic opening face-off at the puck ceremony. He played 1733 games in the regular season and collected 1921 points. With this tally, he ranks second in the all-time scoring list behind Wayne Gretzky (2857). At 52 years old, Jagr is still active in the Czech Extraliga for Rytiri Kladno.
