Kaltern also makes short work of Aosta

It is now clear: the title in the Italian Hockey League will only go to SV Kaltern. The Hechte gave the highly rated HC Aosta no chance on Saturday evening. The other South Tyrolean clubs, however, fared less well.

Five match days have been played in the IHL so far. The record of Teemu Virtala's team is impressive: Luca De Donà & Co. have scored 25 goals and conceded only five. Given these numbers, it is not surprising that they are leading the table with a full point tally. HC Aosta found out first hand on Saturday how strong the Überetsch team is currently. The title contender had to give way to the South Tyroleans with a score of 3:6.

The match started anything but well for the hosts in front of 335 spectators. Only 25 seconds had been played before Christian Buono beat Alex Andergassen for the first time. However, Kaltern quickly turned the match on its head through De Donà and Raphael Felderer. Because Patrick Timpone equalized just 64 seconds after the 2-1, the score was 2-2 at the first break.

In the second 20 minutes, the home team laid the foundation for victory. Mattia Clericuzio, who is only 19 years old, and De Donà, who scored twice, made it 4-2. After Aosta legionnaire Nick Nardella had reduced the deficit, Moritz Selva restored the old lead with his first goal of the season. Florian Wieser put the lid on it in the final third and made sure the final score was a clear 6-3.

Nothing to gain for Brixen and Toblach

748 fans in Varese were treated to a veritable goal festival when the runners-up beat the Falcons Brixen 7:5. After an early lead, the guests fell behind 1:2 and 2:3. Although they were able to make up for these deficits, the Mastini made the decisive difference in the middle third. With the score at 5:6, the Falcons tried again with one more man, but Andrea Schina scored into the empty net. Bogdan Stupak, Yevgeniy Tsurkan, Leo Kruselburger and double goal scorer Matt Staudacher scored for Brixen. At the same time, the HC 3 Zinnen Dolomites had no chance against champions Pergine - the final score was 0:3.
