After tragic check: Paralyzed ice hockey pro sues

The paraplegic Rosenheim ice hockey star Mike Glemser is taking legal action against his opponent. The case is causing a stir internationally.

Mike Glemser has filed a lawsuit against his opponent for compensation for pain and suffering at the Munich II Regional Court. "The lawsuit was served on us on August 27, 2024," a spokeswoman for the court confirmed to the German Press Agency. Previously, the BILD-Newspaper reported about it.

In the serious accident on the ice on February 3, 2023, in the game against SC Riessersee, Glemser's head hit the boards after a check from his opponent, breaking two cervical vertebrae. Glemser was in a coma for ten days and has not been able to move his arms and legs since then.

822.000 euros in compensation demanded

The lawsuit under the file number 12 O 2811/24 at the Munich II Regional Court contains a claim totaling 822.000 euros, which consists of compensation for pain and suffering and a declaratory action. The deadline for responding to the lawsuit is September 27th. After that, the responsible judge will decide on the further proceedings.

The accident had sparked a great deal of sympathy at the time. A fundraising campaign raised around 700.000 euros. "My goal is to get back on my feet," Glemser told the dpa a few months ago.
