Rossi's place in Minnesota's parade line?

Marco Rossi is looking forward to a lot of ice time at the start of the NHL season. Austria's ice hockey star is said to be stronger than ever and has a good chance of finding himself in Minnesota's starting lineup for the opening game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

This is reported by well-informed US media such as The Athletic. The Vorarlberg native, who impressed with 21 goals and 20 assists last season, could therefore play as a center between the Wild's top stars Kirill Kaprizow and Mats Zuccarrello.

In Friday's dress rehearsal against the Chicago Blackhawks, Rossi was put in the first line by coach John Hynes for two periods, after which Joel Eriksson Ek was tested (two assists). Rossi scored the 6-0 (1th) in the 0-8 victory on the power play and provided another PP goal. In the last three games he has scored two goals and three assists.

"Wherever Hynes puts me, I just try to play my game and do my best," Rossi said before the game. "When you play with Zuccy and Kirill, you obviously know what to expect. And you know what you have to do. Be ready for the puck, get them the puck, go into the difficult zones. I'm just trying to develop and have more confidence."

Rossi is playing for a new contract

The 23-year-old Rossi is entering his second full season with Minnesota after initially being slowed down by the aftermath of a Covid infection (November 2020). For the striker, it's all about recommending himself for a future in the Wild jersey. His $863.000 contract expires after this season.

The NHL season officially started on Friday in Prague, with the New Jersey Devils defeating the Buffalo Sabres 4:1. This Saturday (today) will be the second duel between these two teams. The season in North America kicks off on Tuesday.
