The departure of HC Bozen from the Elite.A to the EBEL is a bitter blow for Italian ice hockey, after all, the record champions and at the same time the figurehead are no longer playing. This means that Serie A, which is now called Elite.A, inevitably loses its attractiveness. However, Ritten Sport didn't let this bother them. On the contrary. On the high plateau, people have rolled up their sleeves in the past few weeks and months. With various measures, the traditional club has tried to make the Ritten Sport brand as palatable as possible to South Tyrolean ice hockey fans.

Starting with the transfer card players: With the signing of NHL goalkeeper Chris Mason, the Rittners probably pulled off the transfer coup of the year. “The feeling with Chris was very positive from the first conversation. He is an enormous asset to Italian ice hockey. “We are of course overjoyed that he has signed with us,” said Thomas Rottensteiner at the team presentation on Friday.

Coach Wilson is firmly in the saddle

Mason is one of a total of eight transfer card players playing at the high plateau this year. Travis Ramsey, David Urquhart, Gabe Güntzel, Eric Johansson, Matt Siddal and Levi Nelson are new, while Dan Tudin has been extended. In the future, however, fewer foreigners will be hired by the South Tyrolean club. “Our motto remains that we rely on young, local players. We would like to gradually reduce our contingent of foreign players.” Also new to the team is returnee Luca Ansoldi, who wore the Rittner jersey from 2004 to 2006 and from 2009 to 2011.

The contract with coach Rob Wilson was extended in the summer: “We are satisfied with his work and Rob Wilson knows exactly what he wants. With Roberto Scelfo, we have given him a new assistant coach who will continue to be involved in youth work,” Rottensteiner continued.

New lighting, new website and a large screen

There are also innovations in the Ritten Arena. A new lighting system was installed in the “Buam” home, which is primarily intended to significantly improve the quality of the TV recordings and photos. In just over a month, a large screen will also be installed in the “Forest Chapel”. Film recordings, for example with exciting game scenes or the goals, can then be shown there during the break. Measures to challenge the attractive cross-border leagues EBEL and INL. In addition, the club's new website is scheduled to go online in mid-September. However, there are no changes when it comes to play times. On weekdays, the Rittner championship games start at 20.30:19 p.m., while on Saturdays they start at XNUMX p.m.

Preparatory tournament this Saturday and Sunday

The game will not only be played at Ritten at the start of the championship, but rather this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) as part of the traditional preparatory tournament with the Fishtown Penguins Bremerhaven, the Manitoba Bisons, HC Neumarkt Riwega and host Ritten Opportunity to take a look at the new team. Bremerhaven and the Manitoba Bisons will play the opening match on Saturday at 16 p.m. in the Arena Riten, while the two South Tyrolean clubs will face each other from 19.30:16 p.m. On Sunday at 3 p.m., the two losers from Saturday will meet in the game for third place, and the grand finale between the winners will take place at 19.30:XNUMX p.m. It is the first test on the long and rocky road towards the targeted championship final.
