Ten years of the Transalpine Run: South Tyrol with six stage destinations in focus

Since its premiere in 2005, the Transalpine Run has been considered one of the most demanding stage races for trail runners worldwide. This year, as in 2012, the participants have to complete the eastern route. It leads through Germany, Austria and South Tyrol. The tenth edition starts in Ruhpolding. On the first day, the participants run to St. Johann in Tirol, from there the route leads to Neukirchen am Großvenediger. On the third day the Transalpine Run reaches Prettau in Ahrntal and on the fourth day it reaches Sand in Taufers. Then a mountain sprint from sand up to Speikboden is planned. The entourage then runs to St. Vigil in Enneberg to reach Niederdorf on the seventh and penultimate day. The eighth and final stage leads from Niederdorf to Sexten.

Eleven South Tyrolean teams at the start

Eleven South Tyrolean teams with foreign participation are taking part in the tenth Transalpine Run: three master teams, three senior masters, two master mixed, one mixed, one men's and one women's team. One of the favorites is Annemarie Gross, who has already won the Transalpine Run twice together with Irene Senfter and is starting for the second time this year together with extreme mountaineer Tamara Lunger (Team Gore-Tex Active). Last year the duo came second among the women.

In the Senior Master category, Rudi Schöpf from Vinschger, Senior Master winner in 2011 and runner-up in 2013, and his new partner Alfred Psenner from Steinegg (Team Latsch Skinfit Bozen), Peter Paul Steinhauser and Michael Steger (Team Ahrntal), as well as the duo Heinrich Schötzer and Wolfgang Maurer started the race.

In the mixed category, Andreas Irsara from Stern im Gardetal runs together with the American Jenn Shelton (Gore-Tex Holimites.com). In the master class, Eugen Innerkofler, the 2007 winner, will be at the start with Ivano Molin from Auronzo (Team Dolomiti Superbike), as well as Andreas Winkler and Gianni Sartori. The third South Tyrolean Masters team consists of Oswald Wenin and Günther Filehner (Team Hotel Natur Hochgall).

Markus Planötscher and Anneliese Felderer (Team Niederdorf) are competing in the Master Mixed, as is the couple Patrick Costabiei/Anna Pedevilla from St.Vigil in Enneberg. In the men's race, Daniel Jung (Bike Transalp winner 2013) and Ivan Paulmichl (Team Latsch Mountain Hero) are aiming for a podium place.

Eight categories

The Alpine crossing on foot is evaluated in eight categories based on age; That's three more than before: In addition to Men's, Women's, Mixed, Master Men and Senior Master Men, the categories Master Women, (together at least 80 years old), Master Mixed, and Senior Master Women (together at least 100 years old) were introduced.
