Top striker from St. Pauls: Jonas Clementi.

100 goals: Jonas Clementi reaches Paulsner milestone

On Sunday, Oberliga team St. Pauls will be at home against Bozner FC. Jonas Clementi, who set a very special milestone last weekend, wants to cause a stir again.

It has been clear for years that Jonas Clementi is one of the best strikers in South Tyrol. In the current season, the clipper from upper division club St. Pauls has already scored three times in three games and has thus set a milestone in his career: the Leifer attacker scored a whopping 100 championship goals for St. Pauls.

The 31-year-old Clementi came to St. Pauls from Virtus Don Bosco in the summer of 2015. In his first season with the Blue-Whites, the former Serie D player scored 13 goals in the national league. “There were voices at the time as to whether he was really the striker that would suit St. Pauls,” the top league club wrote on its Facebook page. However, the sporting management stuck with Clementi, who repaid the trust and shot St. Pauls into the top league in the 2016/17 season with 32 goals in 29 games. It goes without saying that he became the top scorer in the national league.

Also top scorer in the Oberliga

Two outstanding years followed in the South Tyrolean football upper house. In his first league season with the Paulsners, Clementi netted 17 times and was mainly responsible for the Überetscher finishing in third place in the table. In the 3/2018 season he was even crowned top scorer in the league with 19 goals. “He scored 25 of the 42 Paulsner championship goals, which is almost 25 percent,” the Paulsner calculates.

The following season (2019/20) was not an easy one for Clementi because he struggled with injuries and then the season was canceled due to Corona. Nevertheless, ten goals in 15 games is a sign of quality. In the summer of 2020, the Leifer native said goodbye to Obermais with 97 Paulsner goals in his luggage, from where he returned to St. Pauls this summer. Clementi scored his 100th championship goal for St. Pauls last Sunday against his former club Obermais.

And: Apparently Clementi has discovered a new skill at the age of 31. “He scored two of his three goals this year from long range. “Actually a rarity given the 100 goals scored,” the Paulsners say.
