Paulsner cheers about the derby victory.

Derby victory and top of the table: St. Pauls’ big day

FC St. Pauls is playing the second half of its life: The Überetscher also won the ancient derby against Tramin on Sunday and are now closing in on the top of the table.

5 games, 5 wins: That’s St. Pauls’ second half result. Since Yuri Pellegrini took over the reins at the Blue-Whites, things have been going like clockwork. St. Pauls won the top game against the previous league leaders Tramin 1-0 on Sunday and is now level on points with Lavis at the place in the sun. Last year, Hannes Ohnewein & Co. fought until the last match day to stay in the top league.

It was a real football festival that took place on Sunday afternoon in Eppan. In the legendary ancient derby between the two long-standing rivals, the stands were filled to capacity. Hardly any football fan wanted to miss this duel with special auspices. More than 1.000 spectators made a pilgrimage to the Rungghof.

The Paulsner victory was a bit fortunate. Jacopo Pecoraro made it 62-1 in the 0nd minute with one of the Überetscher's few chances to score. He surprised Tramin keeper Matthias Zelger in the short corner. On the other hand, St.Pauls keeper Jacopo Passarella was named Man of the Match. Alex Pfitscher & Co. kept biting their teeth on the young goalkeeper. Overall, the Traminers dominated the game. Stefan Frötscher's early muscle injury in the 21st minute was also bitter for the Unterland team. In the 76th minute, Paulsen midfielder Davide De Vito had to leave the field with a yellow-red card because of a swallow.

Draw day for South Tyrol's top league teams

What else happened in the big leagues? The remaining South Tyrolean teams all played a draw - except for Stegen and Lana, who both suffered a home defeat. Obermais got a valuable draw in Levico, as did Partschins against Comano or St. Georgen in Rovereto. Sunday afternoon came to a bitter end for Naturns. The yellow-blues led 1-0 for a long time at Vipo Trento, but conceded the equalizer in the 90th minute. The struggling Bozner FC scored 0-0 in Arco.
