Four games, four defeats: The situation is precarious at regional league club St. Martin Moos, especially because the Passeirians have now slipped to second-to-last place and are four points behind the saving bank. For the Mortiners, who were among the extended favorites before the season, it is now a matter of sheer sporting survival in the state league.
St. Martin is now gaining courage thanks to a new personnel. Last Saturday Patrick Wieser made his comeback to amateur football in the away game against Kiens. The goalkeeper was number 1 at Obermais for years and one of the top division club's figureheads until he took a break a year and a half ago for professional reasons (he runs a hotel with his family).
Patrick Wieser was the regular goalkeeper at Obermais for years.
Now Wieser was bitten by the football fever again. “The appeal is back,” he says in an interview SportNews. The 29-year-old has been training with St. Martin Moos since February, “and actually I just wanted to get back into training,” said Wieser. But he has now made his comeback faster than expected. As is well known, St. Martin Moos had to do so in winter Departure of regular goalie Alessandro Caula to cope with it, Gabriel Hofer and Luis Schwarz, who had actually already quit, were reactivated. Now the people of Passiria have a new number 1.
“Somehow everything was the same.” Patrick Wieser
“It was a great feeling to be in the goal again,” said a delighted Wieser. “The rituals always remained the same, and as soon as the referee blew the whistle, I was just more focused. So somehow everything was the same.” However, Wieser couldn’t prevent the 1:2 defeat against Kiens and he also knows: “The situation isn’t easy right now. That’s why we have to stick together and work hard.”
This Saturday St. Martin Moos meets Schenna. This duel not only has a derby character, but is also extremely important for the table: with a win, St. Martin Moos could stay in touch, while the in-form Schenna could take another step away from the hot zone with a win.
