Obermais as favorite after Lana: “We have the means to win”

A South Tyrolean duel is scheduled for Sunday in the Oberliga: SV Lana welcomes FC Obermais to the Burggräfler Derby. The signs for the two clubs couldn't be more different.

On the one hand there is FC Obermais, which has been a top team in the league for years. At the start, the blue-whites won against Rotaliana 4-1. On the other hand, Lana suffered a bitter 1-0 defeat against title favorite Lavis on matchday 7. After a total upheaval in the summer (almost 20 departures), the young team is still in the process of finding itself. But time in the top league is short - and the program is extremely tough.

After the duel with Obermais, Bozner FC is waiting for Lana. “When I saw the game calendar, I thought to myself: Wow, what an intense start,” reports coach Andrea Culos, who is about to play his first home game as a major league coach. He emphasizes that his team is still in the getting-to-know-you phase: “We are a young team that has only known each other for a month. We have to be humble and work hard. We are making great progress in training.” Culos knows that his team is the complete underdog against Obermais: “Every opponent is stronger than us on paper. Obermais is one of the top candidates in this league. A derby is always a slightly different game. We are highly motivated, but we only look at ourselves.”

Obermais takes on the role of favorite

The games between Lana and Obermais have always been highly competitive in recent years - on and off the pitch. The Merano district club is the clear favorite for the upcoming duel. Anything other than a win would be a disappointment – right Flavio Toccoli? “Yes, I agree. We have the means and the attitude to win this game,” said the Obermais coach. But Toccoli also emphasizes that they won't go into the derby carelessly: “The respect for Lana is there and every game starts from zero. We have to go full throttle.”

On everyone's lips recently was his attacker Manuel Brusco, who joined FC Obermais in the summer. Toccoli is also full of praise for the striker, who scored three times in the opener against Rovereto: “He gives us a lot in training because he always wants to win and always gives 3 percent. In the game we can pass him high or look for crosses, which makes him unique for us. You can say that he was very well received in Obermais.”
