8-1! Bayern come out of the winter break full steam ahead!

Driven by wingers Luis Díaz and Michael Olise, FC Bayern made it clear at the start of the new year with their highest win of the season that they are unstoppable on their way to their 35th league title.

Vincent Kompany celebrated his 50th Bundesliga match as Bayern Munich coach with an 8-1 goal fest against his favorite opponent, VfL Wolfsburg. The lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund increased to eleven points, and talk of Bayern's challengers in the Bundesliga is now unfounded.

In their 39th league victory under Kompany, Bayern Munich's goal machine really hit its stride after the break, despite the sub-zero temperatures. The action at the Allianz Arena was dominated for much of the match by the wing duo of Olise and Díaz. Like Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben before them, the Frenchman and the Colombian delighted the 75.000 spectators with their technique, their tricks, and their relentless attacking drive.

Both scored. Díaz headed in the 2-1 in the 30th minute from an Olise cross. The Frenchman later added the third and seventh goals (50th/76th minutes). The two Munich attackers also forced Wolfsburg own goals from Kilian Fischer (5th minute) and Moritz Jenz (53rd minute) with their relentless attacking play.
