Bayern and Stuttgart win – Leipzig embarrasses itself

Bundesliga Saturday once again had a few surprises in store. While FC Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart won their games, RB Leipzig dropped points at bottom of the table VfL Bochum.

FC Bayern celebrated its third victory in the new year in the Bundesliga. Despite a close match at the end, the Munich team deservedly beat VfL Wolfsburg 3:2 (2:1). VfL Bochum managed a furious comeback, coming from a 0:3 halftime deficit against RB Leipzig to draw 3:3 thanks to hat-trick scorer Myron Boadu.

VfB Stuttgart celebrated a clear home victory with a 4-0 (3-0) win against SC Freiburg. In the relegation battle, Hoffenheim (3-1 in Kiel) and FC St. Pauli (2-0 in Heidenheim) won against direct competitors.

Goretzka scores twice

Jamal Musiala was in the Munich squad, but initially only sat on the bench. "Ultimately, it's not at all the case that he'll be starting right away," explained Vincent Kompany on Sky. The Bayern coach saw goals from Leon Goretzka (20th and 62nd minute) and Michael Olise (39th). Mohamed Amoura (28th and 24th) scored both goals for Wolfsburg, who were unable to celebrate a win in their 88th Bundesliga game in Munich.

At the Ruhrstadion, Bochum seemed to have been beaten early by Leipzig. Goals from Willi Orban (10th), Antonio Nusa (13th) and Christoph Baumgartner (22nd) ensured a perfect start for Leipzig. But striker Boadu (48th, 57th and 61st/penalty) sent the VfL fans into ecstasy with a flawless hat trick.

Stuttgart with a novelty this season

In the Baden-Württemberg duel, VfB Stuttgart set the tone early on against the harmless Freiburg team. Anthony Rouault (2nd), Ermedin Demirovic (17th) and Nic Woltemade (45th+5th/penalty) made things clear before the break, and Deniz Undav (80th) added to the score. VfB thus celebrated three wins in a row for the first time this season.

The stern interview statements by star striker Andrej Kramaric after the 0:5 defeat in Munich ("Big shit in the club") were followed by Hoffenheim's actions in Kiel. Adam Hlozek (26th and 56th) and Kramaric himself (45th+1) scored for the guests. Kiel's goal by Andu Kelati (84th) came too late.

In the evening match, Bayer Leverkusen finally beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3:1 after 90 minutes. The main reason for Bayer's victory was super talent Florian Wirtz, who scored twice. The third goal for the home team was scored by striker Patrik Schick, who has scored a whopping seven goals in the last four Bundesliga matches. Tim Kleindienst scored the consolation goal for the Fohlen in injury time.
