The record champions extended their lead at the top of the table over pursuers Bayer Leverkusen to eleven points, at least temporarily. And they gained further confidence for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against the Werkself on Wednesday.
Angelo Stiller gave Stuttgart, who lost their third home league game in a row, the lead in the 34th minute. The strong Michael Olise (45th) and Leon Goretzka (64th) turned the game in Bayern's favor. The visitors' second goal was preceded by a loss of the ball by the otherwise convincing Stiller. Kingsley Coman made the decision with his goal in the 90th minute.

In an entertaining, at times heated and at times disjointed first half, Stuttgart were the better team. However, they did not always look secure at the back - this created opportunities for Bayern. Olise's low shot was stopped by Nübel (16th minute), and Jamal Musiala curled the ball past the right side of the goal after a misunderstanding in Stuttgart's defense (22nd minute). It was by far the biggest opportunity of the game up to that point.
Stiller scores against former club
VfB showed the courage demanded by coach Sebastian Hoeneß and was rewarded after just over half an hour. After Deniz Undav had missed a huge chance (31st minute), Stiller scored a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area to make it 1-0. Stiller, of all people, was born in Munich and a former Bayern youth player - it was not just a beautiful goal, but one with a special touch.Angelo Stiller (left) celebrates his goal. © APA/afp / THOMAS KIENZLE
But the guests' response, which now invested a little more offensively, was not long in coming. Leroy Sané, who had lost the ball before the goal, sent the very conspicuous Olise on his way - and the 24-year-old scored with a well-placed shot into the left corner. The goal was checked for a long time because of a possible offside position and was ultimately given.
Big VfB mistake before the 1:2
After the break, Bayern's star striker Harry Kane also got into a dangerous scoring position, but was stopped by Nübel (63').Just a short time later, Stuttgart gave Munich a belated present for their 125th birthday. Nübel put Stiller under pressure with his pass, Goretzka intervened - and sank the ball to make it 1:2.

VfB tried to equalize in the final phase, but Bayern scored the goal through substitute Coman after the hosts carelessly lost the ball on the halfway line.
