BVB close to Bayern – Another defeat for Wagner

Borussia Dortmund has reduced the gap to league leaders Bayern Munich to two points.

The Westphalians won 2-0 at 1. FSV Mainz 05, celebrating their fourth victory in five matches. With 13 points, coach Niko Kovac's team consolidated their second-place finish behind the record champions in his 200th Bundesliga game as head coach.

The Munich team kicked off the fifth matchday with a 4-0 home victory against SV Werder Bremen on Friday evening and has the optimal haul of 15 points. RB Leipzig also remains within reach thanks to a 1-0 win at VfL Wolfsburg. Former champions Bayer Leverkusen prevailed 2-1 at FC St. Pauli, while in the basement clash, 1. FC Heidenheim secured their first win after four defeats, worsening the situation for FC Augsburg and their coach Sandro Wagner with a 2-1 victory.

Borussia with a moment of shock before kick-off

Dortmund also managed to overcome the short-term absence of striker Serhou Guirassy. A muscle injury became apparent during the warm-up. Others had to score the goals: Daniel Svensson scored in the 27th minute, and less than a quarter of an hour later, national team player Karim Adeyemi found the back of the net.

BVB, who played with a man advantage for a long time after a red card against FSV goalkeeper Robin Zentner (67th) for an emergency tackle on Adeyemi, have been undefeated in the Bundesliga for 13 matches.
