Diaz scores the winning goal: FC Bayern wins the Supercup

FC Bayern Munich has won its first title of the new season. The Munich team defeated VfB Stuttgart in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on Saturday evening.

Harry Kane (18th minute) and €70 million signing Luis Diaz (77th minute) scored for Bayern in front of 60.000 spectators in Stuttgart, who won 2-1. Jamie Leweling's goal (94th minute) came too late for VfB.

Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer prevented Stuttgart from equalizing with a superb save from Nick Woltemade. The 23-year-old German international striker was particularly in the spotlight that evening. Woltemade's potential move to Munich has been a constant topic of conversation in the transfer market for weeks.

Before kickoff, however, the VfB bosses put the matter to rest, at least from their perspective. They unanimously declared that the attacker would also play for the cup winners this season. "The file is closed," said CEO Alexander Wehrle.

Bayern initially set the tone clearly. Kane finally took advantage of a VfB defensive blunder to take the lead. At the start of the final quarter of an hour, Neuer saved his team from an equalizer against Leweling, and almost immediately afterward, Diaz sealed the victory for Munich. The Liverpool star signing headed home a cross from Serge Gnabry. Leweling could only head in a save.
