On matchday 24, BVB won 2-0 against relegation-threatened newcomers FC St. Pauli. With this, BVB confirmed the slight positive trend under new coach Niko Kovac after the 6-0 win last week.
RB Leipzig suffered another painful 1:2 defeat in the fight for a Champions League place at home against FSV Mainz 05, who had previously been level on points. In the fight against relegation, VfL Bochum suffered setbacks against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (0:1) and 1. FC Heidenheim against Borussia Mönchengladbach (0:3), both in front of their home crowd. In the duel of the cup losers during the week, VfL Wolfsburg won at SV Werder Bremen (2:1).

BVB was keen to confirm their 6-0 win against 1. FC Union Berlin. Niko Kovac's team put in a rather mediocre performance in the first half against the newly promoted Hamburg team. After the break, however, Serhou Guirassy (51') put BVB in the lead, and Karim Adeyemi increased the lead seven minutes later. St. Pauli remained goalless for the fourth game in a row and missed the chance to distance themselves a little from the relegation zone.
Mainz turns the game
Even a lightning start couldn't save Leipzig. After just one minute, the hosts were leading 1-0 thanks to a goal from Xavi Simons. The joy of reaching the cup semi-finals during the week continued straight away. The only difference was that Mainz, who were level on points with RB before the game, were also at their best in terms of results at the carnival wedding: Nadiem Amiri (52nd) and Jonathan Burkardt (58th) turned the game around. The results
