Relegation madness: Bochum remains in the Bundesliga

VfL Bochum remains in the Bundesliga after a sensational comeback.

The third-bottom team in the first division prevailed on Monday evening in the relegation second leg against Fortuna Düsseldorf, third in the second division, 6-5 on penalties. After regular time and extra time the score was 3-0 (1-0).

Four days earlier, the Bochum team had lost 0-3 against the Rhinelanders in their own stadium. Philipp Hofmann (18th minute/66th), Kevin Stöger (70th) with a hand penalty made the miracle possible with their goals in front of 51 spectators, with which VfL prevented their seventh relegation. The Düsseldorf team, however, missed promotion for the seventh time.
