The German record champions announced this three days after their 2-1 win against Borussia Dortmund. The Belgian's previous contract ran until the summer of 2027.
"The contract extension with Vincent Kompany is a strong vote of confidence from the club after his outstanding work to date, as well as a clear sign of continuity and stability at FC Bayern," said President Herbert Hainer in a club statement: "Vincent Kompany is highly valued by the players, the club management, and the fans." With seven league wins, the Munich team had a perfect start to the season.
CEO: “The spark has really jumped”
According to CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, Kompany "brought the fun back to FC Bayern – and the spark really caught." Sporting director Max Eberl said of the head coach: "He's a figurehead who unites players, fans, and everyone at the club, and we want to develop something with him in the long term."Munich is pleased with Kompany's work. © APA/afp / ALEXANDRA BEIER
Kompany arrived at Säbener Straße from Burnley in England for the 2024/25 season and was not considered a top candidate for the head coach position at the time. However, the former professional celebrated the league title in his debut season and impressed with his objective and professional approach.
"I am grateful, honored, and would like to thank FC Bayern for the trust and the working environment they have offered me from day one," said Kompany. "So far, it's been a great experience; we've started a wonderful journey. Let's keep working hard and celebrate many more successes."
