Musiala injury: Donnarumma “shocked”

Gianluigi Donnarumma is still upset after the fateful duel with Bayern's young superstar Jamal Musiala.

“I am very shocked by what happened, it was certainly not my intention to injure Musiala,” said the Italian international goalkeeper from Paris Saint-Germain to Journal of Sport.

In the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup between PSG and the German champions last Saturday, Musiala suffered a broken fibula in the final moments before halftime during a save by Donnarumma. The 22-year-old German international will therefore be out for months.

Advisor explains Donnarumma's behavior on the pitch
"It is unfair to think that he wanted to injure Musiala, who we hope will recover as quickly as possible and come back stronger than before," said Donnarumma's agent Vincenzo Raiola, according to the Italian sports newspaper.

The PSG goalkeeper's agent explained why he didn't go straight to the visibly seriously injured Musiala: Donnarumma is a very sensitive boy. "He couldn't have endured the scene and preferred to leave and let the doctors treat Musiala as best they could." Unusually, the goalkeeper turned on his smartphone in the locker room of the stadium in Atlanta, USA, and sent him a message immediately after the match.

Neuer criticizes Donnarumma

Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer criticized Donnarumma and reproached him. "It was a situation where you didn't necessarily have to go in like that," the 39-year-old Neuer said after the 0-2 defeat. "It's a risky move; you simply accept the possibility of injuring your opponent or teammate."

He also went to Donnarumma and said, "Don't you want to go over there? Jamal is lying there, he'll probably stay in the hospital; he has a serious injury. It's simply a matter of respect to go over there, wish him all the best, and say sorry." Neuer also questioned the Italian's distress on the pitch. The PSG goalkeeper posted on Instagram after the match: "All my prayers and best wishes are with you, Jamal Musiala."
