The Val Gardena native to the reigning Serie A champions

What is it like to be back in South Tyrol after a long time? “It's always nice to come home and see family and old friends again. Even when I'm far away, I often keep in touch with friends, relatives and former teammates. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to meet them often because I have my hands full with football.” How are you in Milan? “I feel very comfortable in Milan. I am very happy that I made the decision to move to Inter. I've lived at Inter's home with a few teammates over the last few years and got along well with everyone there. Now I will perhaps move into an apartment with friends, but I will think about this decision for a while.” You graduated from high school last school year – how did your school education in Milan go? “I completed my Matura at a vocational high school. In the first few years I studied for three days at a public school and two days at school at the Suning Youth Center (editor's note). Last year I was only at school at the junior academy. That was especially nice in times like these, we had the school close to our home and didn’t have to travel a long distance.” What do you like to do most in your free time? “Because of Corona, we don’t have that much free time. In the time we have, we place a lot of emphasis on recovery because training and game days can be strenuous. I often play Playstation at home with my teammates.” What was it like moving from Ortisei to Milan at the age of 15? “It was obviously a big change for me. From my time at FC Südtirol, I was used to not always living with my family in Ortisei. Of course, if you live in Milan, you can no longer go home on the weekend. It wasn't easy at the beginning, but I quickly got used to it. I quickly made new friends while playing football.” What is missing most about South Tyrol? “Maybe the comfort. Milan is beautiful, but can also be tiring. When I’m at home, I always look forward to the peace and quiet and the mountains.” How would you describe the last four years at Inter? “It was a very nice four years. I have learned a lot and am incredibly happy to be part of this great club and incredibly proud to wear these colors.” Have there been any difficult moments in your career so far? “To be honest, everything has gone well so far. Sure, you're always set back by injuries, but luckily I haven't had any serious ones so far. Whenever I had difficulties, the club, the team and my family always helped me.” You were in the Inter first team squad for the first time on November 22, 2020. What was that feeling? “I would describe it as a dream come true. We all dream of one day being able to play in the stadium with the big boys. An unforgettable moment that I will always carry with me.” What was the impression of Antonio Conte and the team? “Conte is a great coach and I am very grateful that he took me with him. Everyone in the first team knows that these moments are unforgettable for us. They all treated us young ones well, gave us advice and helped us.” Which player made the most impression? “As a midfielder, I naturally took my cues from the midfielders. I kept an eye on players like Marcelo Brozovic and Stefano Sensi from the start in order to learn a lot from them. They were all nice to us because they had once been in the same situation themselves.” Was there any contact with the first team before that day? “Many of us were able to train with us from time to time. These are great moments where you try to take away and learn as much as possible.” A few months later you extended your contract with Inter until 2023. What's next with your career? “I try to focus on the present and learn as much as possible. I feel very comfortable here at Inter. When it's time to take further steps, I'll think about it. But at the moment I’m very happy.” The Primavera team has a new coach under contract, Christian Chivu. Has much else changed? “The coach left a good impression right from the start. The team has changed a bit, but some of them are still there from last season. We’re trying to grow together as quickly as possible and give our best during the season.” The next step would be into adult football. What are your goals? “Jumping from Primavera to Serie A is very difficult, only a few can do it. I’m trying to develop myself as best as I can and then see what the future brings.” Are you still following FC Südtirol? “Yes, both my friends who are still playing at the youth level and the first team. They have become a top team, it's a shame that things haven't worked out in Serie B yet. I think they’ll get there sooner or later.” Could you also imagine returning to the FCS? “Like I said, right now I’m concentrating on the present. But you never know what the future will bring (smiles).”

The Val Gardena native to the reigning Serie A champions

David Wieser is considered one of the most promising talents in South Tyrolean football. The 19-year-old midfielder has been playing in Inter Milan's youth team for four years and is currently in the training camp in South Tyrol with the Primavera (U19).
