The third generation in the Squadra Azzurra

The Italian national team is currently playing in the Nations League against Belgium and Israel. The focus is on a new but at the same time big name.

Daniel Maldini represents the third generation of his family in the Squadra Azzurra. His grandfather Cesare (who died in 2016) and his father Paolo had previously played for the Azzurri, with Paolo making 126 appearances. Daniel has now been called up for Italy for the first time. The 22-year-old is currently making a big impression at Monza. "It's nice to see the photos of my father and grandfather hanging here in Converciano," said Maldini after arriving at the training camp.

In seven Serie A games this year, the number 10 scored one goal and provided one assist. Maldini had already impressed at Monza in the second half of the season. The midfielder, who was trained at Milan, is one of the few attacking players in Luciano Spalletti's squad, alongside Giacomo Raspadori, Matteo Retegui, Lorenzo Lucca and perhaps Lorenzo Pellegrini.
