A club icon takes over at Inter

After the departure of the previous coach Simone Inzaghi to Saudi Arabia, Inter has apparently quickly found a successor.

According to Italian newspapers, the Champions League finalists will be coached by Romanian Cristian Chivu. The 44-year-old previously worked for the Italian runners-up as a player and youth coach. Since the spring, he has been coaching Serie A rivals Parma Calcio, saving them from relegation.


According to information from Journal of Sport Chivu is to receive a two-year contract. The signing is expected to take place on Friday (tomorrow), according to other newspapers. Chivu played in defense for Inter between 2007 and 2014. He won the Champions League with the team in 2010. Other clubs he played for during his playing career included Ajax Amsterdam and AS Roma. Chivu also played 75 times for the Romanian national team.

Inzaghi signed a contract in Saudi Arabia after the 0-5 defeat in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. According to media reports, the 49-year-old will receive an annual salary of up to €25 million at the Saudi club Al-Hilal.
