It should have been a high-scoring Saturday, but for Juventus the match against bottom-placed FC Venezia was almost a complete embarrassment. Dusan Vlahovic saved the 2-2 draw with a penalty in injury time, but the Bianconeri's performance was once again unconvincing. The Turin team, who have drawn four of their last four games, are continuing to slump in form and are increasingly losing touch with the top spots in Serie A.
The match began according to plan for Juventus. After a corner in the 19th minute, Federico Gatti gave the home team a 1-0 lead. Khephren Thuram provided the assist and the fans in the Allianz Stadium cheered their players. But instead of extending their lead, the Old Lady again showed weaknesses in their build-up play and little creativity. The team seemed lacking in ideas and insecure, while Venice became more courageous.
Venice doesn't let up
There was a shocking moment in the second half: Mikael Egill Ellertsson took advantage of a cross from Francesco Zampano in the 61st minute and scored the deserved equalizer. Juventus seemed paralyzed after that, while the visitors continued to wait for their chances. In the 83rd minute, it was Jay Idzes who scored the 2-1 for Venice with a header after a free kick.Venice took a 2-1 lead. © ANSA / Alessandro Di Marco
But the situation was not over yet. In injury time, the referee pointed to the penalty spot after Antonio Candela handled the ball in the penalty area. Dusan Vlahovic took responsibility and confidently converted to make the final score 2:2. Despite the late goal, the result almost seemed like a defeat for Juventus, while FC Venezia returned home with a point, but still end up bottom of Serie A.
Atalanta remains the league leader, having beaten Cagliari 1-0 on Saturday. Their closest rivals Napoli also triumphed 3-1 against Udinese.
