Cruciate ligament tear: Atalanta's defensive jewel misses the European Championships

This is bitter: Italy's up-and-coming defensive talent Giorgio Scalvini has torn a cruciate ligament and will therefore miss the upcoming European Championships.

The scene happened on Sunday evening in the last and insignificant Serie A game, the catch-up game between Atalanta and Fiorentina. Scalvini had previously made it 2-2. The emotional worlds in football are sometimes so close together. Now Scalvini will be out for at least six months.

The defender, who can also play in midfield, has already played almost 100 games for Atalanta - and that as a 20-year-old. Scalvini has also appeared 8 times for the Italian national team. He is the second central defender, alongside Inter's veteran Francesco Acerbi, to miss the European Championships. Juve's Federico Gatti was nominated for them.
