Roma fires Daniele De Rossi

This news comes as a surprise, but not out of nowhere: Daniele De Rossi has been fired as coach by "his" AS Roma. The official statement from the Romans suggests that the relationship with the team was not the best.

"The club's decision is in the interest of the team so that it can continue on the path it has begun," said a press release from AS Roma. Daniele De Rossi was officially dismissed on Wednesday morning. "Daniele will always have his home at the club," it concluded. De Rossi's successor has not yet been announced.

De Rossi took over the team from Josè Mourinho in January and was initially very successful. However, they have not won a single game this season. 3 out of 4 games ended in a draw. In total, De Rossi has played 30 games as Roma coach. From 2002 to 2019 he was a professional footballer for his hometown club.

The decision to fire De Rossi is said to have been made largely by Roma's American owners. There have also been some tensions with players in recent weeks. De Rossi and national player Bryan Cristante got into a fight during training and even had to be separated. However, a discussion took place afterwards. Cristante was a regular player at the start of the season.
