Injury after penalty kick: De Bruyne undergoes surgery

Kevin De Bruyne underwent surgery on his right thigh in Antwerp on Wednesday.

The operation was "a complete success," his Italian club SSC Napoli announced in a statement. The 34-year-old playmaker suffered a hamstring injury on Saturday while taking a penalty kick. It is not yet known how long the Belgian will be sidelined.

De Bruyne had given Napoli the lead in the 33rd minute of their Serie A top-of-the-table clash against Inter Milan with a penalty, but immediately afterwards grabbed his thigh and had to be substituted. Reigning champions Napoli ultimately won 3-1 and lead the table by three points over Milan.
