Magic goal: Inter loses ground in the title race

On Sunday, the Serie A matchday 33 saw the duel between Bologna and Inter.

The battle for the Serie A championship is still very much open and will be decided between two teams: Napoli and Inter. After the southern Italians had already taken the lead with a 1-0 away win at Monza on Saturday (SportNews has reported), Inter were in action on Easter Sunday. However, there was nothing for the Lombards to gain at Bologna's Renato Dall'Ara Stadium – the hosts won thanks to a magical goal from Riccardo Orsolini.

Although both sides had numerous chances in the first half, nothing came of it. Inter dominated the game, while Bologna relied primarily on the lightning-fast Dan Ndoye, who repeatedly delivered dangerous pinpricks. The teams went into the dressing room with a goalless 0-0 scoreline.

Game is decided in injury time

The start of the second half was extremely chaotic and fractious. The referee didn't take a clear line on the pitch, and a red card was shown to Bologna coach Vincenzo Italiano and Inter's assistant coach. The game then petered out without any major opportunities.

Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who was heavily involved in the game, had a lot of touches of the ball. However, this move proved unsuccessful, as Bologna defended well and closed down the spaces. In the closing stages, Bologna pinned the visitors back in their own penalty area. The highlight was Riccardo Orsolini's winning goal in stoppage time: Inter defender Yann Bisseck inadvertently extended a long throw-in from Juan Miranda to Orsolini, who plucked up the courage to fire the ball into the net with a scissor-kick (90'+4').

Atalanta “flies” to victory over Milan

In the evening's top match, Milan hosted Atalanta. The match could certainly be considered a derby, as Milan and Bergamo are just under 40 minutes apart by car. After a weak first half, in which both teams made numerous mistakes and were unsure, the pace picked up after the break.

Milan were the better team, dictating the game. Gian Piero Gasperini's team, however, closed down the space well and threw themselves into every shot – numerous attempts by Milan players were blocked. Atalanta's Ederson scored the only goal in the 62nd minute, scoring with a stunning diving header to make it 1-0 after a header from Raoul Bellanova. Milan tried to respond until the final whistle, but failed to create any major opportunities.

Relegation duel ends in a draw

Empoli and Venezia had already drawn 2-2 earlier in the afternoon. Both teams are currently in a direct relegation zone, so the point doesn't really help them. Both Empoli and Venezia have 25 points, and safety is just a single point away – Lecce currently sits there with 26 points.

Meanwhile, Monza is far behind in last place (15 points). While staying in the league is still mathematically possible, realistically it's very unlikely.
