David Wieser reaches for Serie B

Every Monday in our “Field Sales” section we take a closer look at those South Tyrolean football professionals who earn their money outside their home borders. This time in focus: David Wieser.

2017 was David Wieser moved from FC Südtirol to Inter's youth department. Since then, the man from Val Gardena has experienced a lot. A few years ago, Wieser was even allowed to sit on the bench during a Nerazzurri championship game at San Siro. The 21-year-old now plays for Mantova in Serie C (Group, A) and is causing a huge sensation there with the former first division club.

Wieser often comes into the game from the bench, but he always gets his playing time. At the weekend in the 2-0 home win against Giana Erminio, the midfielder was allowed to start and played until the 62nd minute. Mantova now leads the table with a 7-point lead over Padova and is therefore aiming to return to Serie B. Wieser has one goal and one assist this year. His contract in Mantua (Lombardy) runs until 2026.

It also caused a stir Manuel DeLuca taken care of. The striker is now a permanent fixture at Sampdoria. On Saturday, the Serie B club won 2-1 at Cittadella. De Luca initiated the comeback with his assist to make it 1-1. Sampdoria is now ahead of FC Südtirol in the table.

Otherwise, from a South Tyrolean perspective, little has happened. In Serie C (Group B), Carrarese won the top game against Sassari Torres 5-1. However, no local professional was on the pitch. Stayed with Carrarese Simone Zanon on the bench, Emanuele Zuelli is hurt. Manuel Fischnler Sassari Torres, however, was missing due to a yellow card suspension. Lorenzo Sgarbi (Avellino) is only in action on Monday evening and Jonas Heinz (Taranto) is currently injured.

There is also little to report from abroad. Max Reinthaler remained on the bench for 3 minutes in the 1-90 home win of the German second division team Wehen Wiesbaden against Hertha BSC Berlin Simon Straud (Austria Klagenfurt) the second half of the season in Austria starts later.
