Psairer women's bowling team on the rise

Few would have predicted Passeier would be among the top teams in the women's A-League this year. And yet, there they are: The team, led by captain Doris Libardi, has had a very strong first half of the season and is currently in third place behind Sarnthein and Fugger Sterzing. They demonstrated their strength once again in their last home match against Kiens, which they won convincingly 5-1.

The match against the Puster Valley team was also a kind of top match, as Kiens had already made a name for themselves with their performances. However, Sonja Fischer and her teammates were outmatched against Passeier, even though they ultimately finished only 25 pins behind.

Jasmin Santer secured the first and only point for Kiens against Heidi Hofer, winning 559:498 (3:1 in sets). After that, however, only Passeier bowlers managed to secure the match points. Starting with Waltraud Haller, who defeated Sarah Hirber in a thrilling duel by a single pin. Both bowlers won two sets each, but Haller knocked down one more pin (546) than Hirber (545).

Then came the day's top performance. This came courtesy of Ulrike Königsrainer, who faced Kiens captain Sonja Fischer. Königsrainer knocked down a staggering 572 pins, winning all four sets against Fischer (486 pins) and securing a well-deserved victory. The final duel between Passeier's Doris Libardi and Kiens player Sandra Santer was considerably more exciting. Here, a bowling phenomenon became apparent once again: Santer knocked down one more pin than Libardi with 506, but this only earned her one set. Libardi, with three sets won, thus clinched the match point despite her 505 pins.

In the overall result, Passeier was slightly ahead with 2121 pins to 2096 pins, resulting in a final score of 5:1.

Neumarkt remains flawless The title in the men's A1 class can only go to Neumarkt. That was clear even before the championship began; the difference in skill level between them and the other teams is simply too great. This was evident again last matchday in their 8-0 victory over Ridnauntal. Neumarkt had to manage without Tamás Kiss, with Othmar Lindner taking his place in the starting lineup. And he won his duel against Peter Volgger, even though the Ridnaun player knocked down significantly more pins. While the final score was 582:569 in favor of Volgger, Lindner's pinfall secured him three set points and thus the victory.

At that point – it was the final duel of the match – that was merely a side issue. Neumarkt's victory was already secured. A local player from Neumarkt delivered an outstanding performance: Armin Egger, with 690 pins, once again demonstrated that he is South Tyrol's greatest bowling talent. If the Jenesien native can consistently perform at this level, Neumarkt will have a real shot at international titles. Egger will have the opportunity to prove himself this Saturday in the Champions League match in Leifers (see article above).

For Neumarkt, all six players contributed to their 8-0 victory, as was self-evident. The wins of the foreign players Erik Kuna (664 pins and four set points against Thomas Haller/564 pins) and Vilmos Zavarko (667 pins and four set points against Arnold Plattner/557) were uncontested. Daniel Prinoth also demonstrated why he enjoys the great confidence of coach Hermann Ludwig, defeating Christian Kasslatter 616-556 (4-0 in sets). The only close match was between Alex Posch and Andreas Gschwenter, where Posch won by a single pin, 565-564 (2-2 in sets). Neumarkt's overall average of 629 pins was certainly respectable.
