The Italian champions in Bruneck have been determined

The competition, organized by the Alpine Club of South Tyrol and the professional sports association FASI, took place under strict Covid security measures and was the first official climbing competition in Italy since the lockdown. “It’s never easy to win an Italian championship,” said a visibly relieved Laura Rogora. She started the competition as the favorite after recently winning the only and first World Cup of the season. It was her fourth national lead title, while it was the seventh title in the category for Stefano Ghisolfi. The decision for the podium places was very close. In the men's category, the first five placed reached the same grip, only a plus or the semi-final decided the ranking. Ghisolfi won ahead of last year's winner Marcello Bombardi (Army Sports Group) and Francesco Vettorata (Fiamme Oro). The young Marco Colombo and the South Tyrolean Filip Schenk (both Fiamme Oro) came 4th and 5th. The Olympic athlete Michael Piccolruaz (Fiamme Oro) was able to gain several places in the final and came 7th. The young climber Jonathan Kiem (AVS Meran) made it into the final semi-final and came 25th. In the women's category, only Laura Rogora (Fiamme Oro) made it almost to the top. The strong Giorgia Tesio from Cuneo came a step below in second place. The young Federica Papetti from Brescia came third, followed by Claudia Ghisolfi (Fiamme Oro) and Illaria Scolaris (Sasp), both from Turin. The young woman from Val Gardena, Elisabeth Lardschneider (AVS Meran), came in an excellent 7th place. The AVS state squad athletes Vanessa Kofler (AVS Passeier) and Evi Niederwolfsgruber (AVS Bruneck) were able to qualify for the semi-finals and came 14th and 17th. The 2020 Italian Lead Climbing Championships took place at the Bruneck Climbing Center at the weekend. The favorites Laura Rogora and Stefano Ghisolfi, both athletes from the police sports group, won the coveted title.
