South Tyrolean youth contingent

The second part of the most important youth sport climbing competition took place last weekend at the "Climbing Stadium" in Arco. A total of 30 South Tyroleans qualified. An Italian champion and five other athletes finished in the top ten.

The more than 300 qualified athletes from all over Italy turned this competition into a veritable climbing festival. Medals were competed for in the lead, boulder, and speed disciplines. Thirty South Tyrolean AVS athletes qualified for the U30 Italian Youth Championships through the regional Junior Cup series.

And this year, our girls and boys once again demonstrated that they can climb at the top despite the tough competition. First and foremost, Matilda Liu„ Moar (AVS Brixen) deserves special mention in the U19 girls' category. She can now call herself the reigning Italian champion in lead climbing and rounded off her outstanding result with a bronze medal in bouldering.

But the local athletes also had plenty to celebrate in the U21 girls' category, as Leonie Hofer (AVS Passeier) won the bronze medal in both the lead and bouldering events, and also finished third in the combined event. In the U17 girls' category, Emmy Lang (AVS St. Pauls) literally flew through the bouldering qualification round and secured third place in the thrilling final. With a strong fourth place in the speed event, she even crowned herself the Italian combined champion.
