Katja Pattis is U18 vice-champion of Italy

The 17-year-old from the South Tyrol Team Club once again showed a strong performance on Friday in the province of Salerno. Pattis, who was crowned U18 Italian cross country champion in March, started the race as the favorite in the 2000 m steeplechase. The South Tyrolean and defending champion Maddalena Pizzamano fought an exciting head-to-head race from the start. The runner from Florence overtook Pattis in the last corner and ultimately prevailed with a sensational time of 6:49.37 minutes, 25 hundredths ahead of Pattis.

The animal rider increased her personal best (6:52.79), set four weeks ago at the Brixia meeting, by over three seconds. Chiara Facchin from Bologna completed the podium in 6:59.99 minutes. Lisa Kerschbaumer from Tramin, who registered with the second best time, had to settle for fifth place in 7:03.15 minutes. The athlete from SC Meran also improved by 5 seconds. Veronika Hölzl, also from SC Meran, came in tenth with a new personal best of 5,34:7 minutes. Merano walker Valeria Buglisi also took 23.47th place over 10 km in 5:26 minutes.
