Reschenseelauf: Lanziner and Rungger with ambitions to win

3250 reports from 15 nations have been received so far. They make the Reschenseelauf the largest running event in South Tyrol. “In view of the good weather forecasts, the late registrations will probably add a few hundred more,” OK boss Gerald Burger can rub his hands.

Many top runners already have their start number secured. Seven winners of the Reschenseelauf will be at the start on Saturday, including the two defending champions Peter Lanziner and Sandra Urach as well as the record winners Hermann Achmüller (6) and Renate Rungger and Maja Gautschi (4 each).

Lanziner's goal

Lanziner only has one goal in mind: "I'll say it very clearly. I want to win the race for the third time, even if I don't know my opponents. I already won the first time I competed in 2010. I was excited about the race and the mood "I am thrilled. The Reschenseelauf is something very special. My form is very good, so I will also attack the course record." Reinhard Harrasser has held this since 2006 with 49:07 minutes.

But the competition for Lanziner is probably greater than ever before. The biggest opponent is probably the Czech Milan Kocourek. The 26-year-old is a multiple Czech champion and was 12th at the European Cross Country Championships last year. His 10.000m best time is 29:06. Lanziner has never run the 10 km in under 30 minutes. The route around Lake Reschen measures 15,3 km. And Kocourek, who has been training locally for a long time, is said to have already run a 49er time in training. Other strong runners include Hannes Rungger, Achmüller and the German mountain running champion Timo Zeiler.

Renate Rungger wants to be the sole record winner again

There are currently two record winners among women: the Swiss Maja Gautschi and the Sarnen Renate Rungger. Both have won four times. Rungger recently won the European team championship title in mountain running. Your mission for Saturday is clear. “I would like to be the sole record winner again.” That means: the fifth victory is the goal. "For me, 15 km is a lot, but the incomparable atmosphere and the great scenery are worth it." Rungger's last victory to date was five years ago.

The woman from Sarnen has to assert herself against the top three from last year: the Austrian Urach, the Trentino-born Monica Carlin and Gautschi. The Swiss has always been on the podium since 2005. The excitement of winning is particularly great this time, because the winners of the Reschenseelauf will be immortalized on the new winners' board, a gigantic work of art made of Lasa marble and stainless steel in the start and finish area.

The 15.3 km long route around South Tyrol's largest lake at 1500 m has three smaller climbs with a maximum elevation gain of 90 meters. The start and finish are near the historic church tower of Graun. First you walk in a southerly direction. In addition to the main run, there is also the "Just for Fun" without timekeeping, the run for handbikers and Nordic walkers and the children's run near the historic church tower.

Between runners and spectators, the organizers expect around 10.000 visitors. The competition program begins at 13.30:17 p.m. with the children's run. The main run starts at XNUMX p.m.
