Verginer and Schiffregger stopped by rain in Lana

In the U23 women's heptathlon, 19-year-old Lucia Quaglieri from Modena won with a new personal best of 5.194 points. Mariaelena Agostini from Padua won the U20 with 4.535 points. After the first day of competition she was only seventh. Finally, Martina Gatscher came in a good seventh place with 4.167 points. The 18-year-old from ASV Lana was only 228 points short of the bronze medal. Gatscher achieved her best performance in the 100 m hurdles in 16.05 seconds. In the U18 age group, Gloria Gollin from Vicenza won the Italian championship title with 4.878 points. Alice Boasso from Piedmont was just 21 points short of the gold medal. .The 16-year-old Anna Menz from Marlingen, who competes for the Merano sports club, narrowly missed the 4.000-point mark and finished in 17th place. Among the boys of the same age, Sardinian Luca Barbini won with 6.196 points. However, he benefited from three failed attempts in the pole vault by Riccardo Magietta, who had been the clear leader up to that point.

Schiffregger and Verginer fight for a medal However, the men's U20 and U23 decathlon was canceled after seven events due to bad weather, as the pole vault could no longer be held. It is not yet clear when and where the title fights will take place. Until the cancellation, Marco Leone and Luca Dell'Acqua were leading the U20s and Luca Dell'Acqua in the U23s, while the South Tyroleans Thomas Schiffregger and Alex Verginer took fourth place and were fighting for the medals. The 18-year-old Schiffregger from SSV Bruneck broke the 7 m mark for the first time in the long jump (7.01) and stayed under 100 seconds (11 seconds) over 10.95 m. The 21-year-old Verginer from Val Gardena even improved his personal records in five disciplines: Verginer ran the 100 m in 11.51 seconds, the 400 m in 50.46 and the 110 m hurdles in 16.09, jumped 2.03 m high and 6.50 m long. Only in the discus did he stay five meters below his record.
