Marcel Hirscher and the big spectacle on two wheels

The hunt for the Rock Cup for the toughest off-road individual race is open from June 16th to 19th. For the elite, the Erzbergrodeo is the third stop of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship, for everyone it is the largest dirt bike festival in the world. The rules were tightened again before the 26th edition. Former ski star Marcel Hirscher also wants to conquer the mountain.

As usual, the highlight of the event will take place on Sunday with the Hare Scramble, with the best 500 from the prologue competing. Scene greats such as Manuel Lettenbichler (GER), Billy Bolt (GBR) and Taddy Blazusiak (POL) have confirmed their participation again. Austria's Hard Enduro hope Michael Walkner is also there. The last winner so far is Briton Graham Jarvis, who won in 2019. It was his fifth victory overall at Erzberg. “Every checkpoint I manage is a success” Marcel Hirscher Marcel Hirscher is also at the start. “For me the journey is the destination and I will try to have as much fun as possible while racing. Every checkpoint I manage is a success, and that’s exactly the experience I’m looking forward to,” said the 33-year-old. The eight-time overall ski World Cup winner will pilot a Husqvarna TE 89 with start number 300. Hirscher has been a passionate off-road motorcycle rider for a long time. Last year, Hirscher broke his leg during an enduro rally in Romania.

More than 1.100 participants from 40 nations are expected, including motorcyclists from South Tyrol. Drivers from Iran, Ecuador, Japan and New Zealand are also represented. Participants who have already tried their hand at the Erzberg have to adapt to changes. Due to open-cast mining, the area has changed massively in recent years. The so-called court ditch is now up to 80 meters higher after being filled. The bathtub is no longer allowed to be used because a pond has been created there.

Up to 35.000 spectators are expected. What is new this year is that participants are not allowed to seek help from onlookers, mechanics or other team members along the entire route (“No Help” zone). Furthermore, there will no longer be any refueling or charging points on the almost 38 kilometer long race track; participants will have to complete the entire race with one tank or battery filled.
