As the English racing team announced, the team's accommodation was "evacuated due to a fire alarm" in the morning. "The team was safely evacuated while the local fire brigade is dealing with the problem." The racing team did not provide any further details.
Eyewitnesses initially reported heavy smoke and a pungent smell. Firefighters entered the motorhome wearing protective masks. According to ORF information, a fire had started in the kitchen and it was a plastic fire. People were also injured, but there were no burns. TV images showed a person being taken away in an ambulance wearing an oxygen mask.
The area around the motorhome, where team members, guests and drivers are usually entertained, was initially cordoned off. Police forces were also deployed. Shortly before the start of the final training session at 12.30 p.m., an ambulance and firefighters left the area in question.
