Hamilton-Mania at Ferrari: City asks for help

Lewis Hamilton has completed his first day at Ferrari and has already made a good first impression. The seven-time world champion was an absolute crowd puller in Maranello - which is why the city's mayor asked the authorities for help.

"There are days that you will remember forever," Lewis Hamilton began his poetic review of day one at Ferrari. "And today, my first as a Ferrari driver, is one of those days." After 18 years in Formula 1 and seven world titles in the premier class of motorsport, the Brit can now officially call himself part of the most iconic of all racing teams. "Part of me has always held on to the dream of driving in red. I couldn't be happier to be able to make that dream come true today."

Hamilton wants to usher in a new era with Ferrari - and gave a first taste of what's to come during his appearance in Maranello, the home of Ferrari. The 40-year-old signed numerous autographs and even spoke a few sentences in Italian to some fans. The British veteran sparked a rare hype in the city. This state of emergency is now causing concern for the mayor of Maranello.

Mayor calls for support

On Wednesday, Hamilton will have his first test drive in the red F1 car. The rush in the city will be even greater then, as the beds in the region have been fully booked for some time. The Tifosi want to be very close to their old rival and new hero. This could lead to problems. Mayor Luigi Zironi asked the authorities in the surrounding towns and communities for support during this time, so that everyday life in Maranello does not come to a standstill due to the enormous rush.

However, Ferrari fans will have to wait a little longer for the first official appearance. All teams will be testing in Sakhir between February 26 and 28, and the season will kick off on March 16 with the Australian Grand Prix.
