Completely destroyed car: Serious Formula 1 accident

Qualifying for the Formula 1 race in Imola was overshadowed by a horror accident on Saturday.

It was the biggest scare of this Formula 1 Saturday: Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda crashed heavily at the start of qualifying for the Formula 1 race in Imola (Emilia-Romagna). Shortly after the start of the time trial, the Japanese attacked a corner far too hard, lost control, and crashed directly into the barriers. The car was completely destroyed.

The good news: Miraculously, Tsunoda was not injured in this horrific crash. He was able to get out of the car himself and was only taken to the trackside hospital for safety reasons. Nevertheless, a start on Sunday (15 p.m.) is highly unlikely, given that Tsunoda's car was totaled. Whether the mechanics will be able to repair it overnight seems questionable.

Meanwhile, World Championship leader Oscar Piastri has secured pole position for the Formula 1 race in Imola. The McLaren driver narrowly relegated world champion Max Verstappen in the Red Bull to second place. Mercedes driver George Russell finished third.

Meanwhile, Ferrari experienced pure disappointment: Charles Leclerc only finished qualifying in 11th place, with Lewis Hamilton one place behind.
