“The highest mountain race in the world” turns 90

It was August 28, 1932. Exactly 90 years ago, the first international mountain championship was held on the Stelvio Pass. The organizers were the five most important automobile clubs in Europe, and the five “best” mountain roads at the time served as race tracks. The race from Trafoi to Stelvio Pass was advertised as the “highest mountain race in the world”.

The best car racing drivers and best racing cars in the world took part, and there was correspondingly great interest at home and abroad. This major international event was also a first for South Tyrol. A detailed look back.
