The team announced this on Friday. The acquisition is being financially backed by IKON Capital, an investment platform active in the sports, media, and entertainment sectors. Steiner, a South Tyrolean who headed the Haas Formula 2016 team from 2023 to 1, will assume the role of CEO starting in 2026, with Richard Coleman becoming team principal.
Tech3, which currently competes in MotoGP with riders Enea Bastianini and Maverick Viñales, had been looking for alternatives in light of the Mattighofen-based motorcycle manufacturer's financial difficulties and has now found them. "This is a fantastic opportunity," Steiner emphasized. "Tech3 is a great team with enormous potential."
As a customer team, the team will continue to source its machines from KTM and maintain its base in Bormes-les-Mimosas (France) – at least until the end of the current contract in 2026. Founder and current team boss Herve Poncharal (68) will assume the role of consultant starting in 2026.
