Marc Marquez crashes, brother Alex celebrates first victory

Alex Marquez celebrated his first victory in MotoGP and also took over the World Championship lead from his brother Marc in Jerez.

The Spanish Ducati rider prevailed on Sunday ahead of Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) and Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati). The race winner also benefited from a crash by Marc Marquez on the third lap. However, the eight-time world champion still managed to climb to twelfth place.

At the halfway point of the race, Alex Marquez overtook Quartararo and never relinquished the lead. The KTM squad also put in a strong performance: Spaniard Maverick Vinales rode his Tech3 bike to fourth place, South African Brad Binder finished sixth for the factory team, and his teammate Pedro Acosta, also from Spain, finished seventh.

Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz waved the checkered flag in Jerez de la Frontera. In the World Championship standings, Alex Marquez is now one point ahead of his brother Marc, who had previously led. The two are the first pair of brothers in MotoGP to each win at least one race.
