Rookie victory and shock for World Champion Marquez

The turbulent Moto GP race in Mandalika saw a rookie win for Fermín Aldeguer and world champion Marc Márquez suffer a collarbone injury after an early crash with Marco Bezzecchi.

The 20-year-old Spaniard Aldeguer, riding for the Gresini team, is the second-youngest MotoGP winner ever, behind Marc Márquez. KTM also celebrated, with Pedro Acosta (ESP) taking second place and Brad Binder (RSA) fourth. Álex Márquez (ESP) finished third.

Bezzecchi took out Marc Márquez on the first lap, and both ended up in the gravel trap. "This isn't the best race after winning the World Championship, but Marco came and apologized. Sometimes it happens to me, sometimes to someone else; that's MotoGP." He will now fly to Madrid and have a CT scan. "Either the ligaments in my collarbone are torn, or my collarbone is fractured. We have to find out," Márquez explained.

Whether surgery will be necessary remains to be seen, and he wants to return as soon as possible, the Ducati rider said. His right shoulder has already undergone several operations. Aldeguer, meanwhile, was "super happy" in the race. "For a rookie, we're doing incredible work." The next Grand Prix weekend will take place on October 18-19 in Phillip Island (Australia).
