The Spanish Ducati rider, already confirmed as world champion, suffered a ligament injury and a fracture of the coracoid process, a bony projection of the shoulder blade, in his right shoulder. As the seven-time world champion's racing team announced on Monday, no surgery is necessary.
To treat the injury conservatively, the affected shoulder must remain immobilized until full recovery. The Australian and Malaysian Grand Prix on the last two weekends of October will therefore take place without Marquez.
"Fortunately, the injury is not serious, but it is important to respect the recovery period," Marquez was quoted as saying in a statement. The doctors in charge ruled out any connection with Marquez's previous injury to the same shoulder.
