Young South Tyrolean shakes up the Open GT class
A perfect debut for Max Mutschlechner from Bruneck. The 19-year-old got his first taste of motorsport last fall during a test in the Porsche Cayman GT4 class at the Misano Adriatico race track (Emilia-Romagna). Mutschlechner has already secured two victories and a pole position in the Porsche Sports Cup Swiss (Open GT class).

Thanks to professional preparation with motorsport coach Andreas Mayrl (Lana), Max Mutschlechner found a place at the Porsche Center "5 Lakes" near Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER), thus securing a starting spot in this international racing series. The Brunico native contested his first race of his life in April at the "Autódromo Internacional do Algarve" in Portugal, promptly finishing third on the podium.
"I never expected—perhaps hoped—to start my motorsport career with a podium finish," says Mutschlechner, who spent hundreds of hours in the simulator to prepare for the racing series. In the second race, Mutschlechner collided with the leader, Philipp Wills (BEL), and was eliminated. At the end of the race weekend, Mutschlechner/Mayrl competed in the two-hour endurance race and finished second.
First victory at the Red Bull Ring
At the end of May, the second race weekend of the Porsche Sports Cup Swiss took place at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg (AUT). The "Puschtra Bui" already posted strong times in practice, secured his first pole position in qualifying, and celebrated his first victories in both races one and two. Mutschlechner: "This is fantastic; the races in Spielberg were really fun. I have to keep working hard and try to further improve my level over the course of the season."Max Mutschlechner in action.
On top of that, Mutschlechner was able to return home from Styria as the overall leader in the 992 Cup Open GT class. Andreas Mayrl: "We will continue to work on Max's consistent performance. It's a great pleasure to accompany him on this journey. We'll see where his racing adventure takes him in the coming months or years; the journey has only just begun."
The next races in the Porsche Sports Cup Swiss will take place from 20 to 22 June at the “Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari” in Imola (Emilia-Romagna) and from 17 to 19 July at the “Autodromo Nazionale” in Monza (Lombardy).
