The starting signal for the MTB Night Race will be given in Schlanders on July 14th

The latest news from the venue speaks of the prestigious names of already confirmed participants. The winners of the last two editions, Marco Aurelio Fontana and Eva Lechner, stand out among them. Lechner has always been on the top step of the winner's podium and is the absolute favorite to win five times. Fontana, the top rider of the Italian national cross country team, has just achieved an excellent third place in the World Cup race in Windham (USA), which shows that Fontana is in top form for the Olympic Games in August, where he will, among other things, compete alongside Lechner and the other South Tyrolean Gerhard Kerschbaumer will compete.

Kerschbaumer, 2011 European champion and winner of the 2011 overall World Cup in the U23 category, will also take part in the MTB Night Race in Schlanders on July 14th, together with Ralph Naef (he is also in the starting blocks for the Olympic Games in London), Sabine Spitz , the gold medalist at the Olympic Games in Beijing, the Russian and former world champion Irina Kalentieva, the Swiss cycling champion Nathalie Schneitter and many more.

The 2012 World Cup is taking a break until the end of July, which is why more champions are expected for the MTB Night Race 2012, where they can demonstrate their skills on the route through the town center of Silandro and test their form with a view to the upcoming races.

The route of the MTB Night Race 2012 is significantly shorter than in previous years (around 2,8 km in total), so that spectators can constantly keep an eye on the cyclists.

After the start at the centrally located Dammlplatz, the first 300 m long climb begins, which is followed by a short grass section no more than 100 m long, where the gradient is 25%. The following sections are absolutely spectacular and lead over a bridge over the Schlandraunbach, some ascending steps on which the bike is carried, and back to the town center on a serpentine path. Once you have arrived in the pedestrian zone of Schlanders, there is a small wooden bridge, a small, difficult jump, a beautiful steep curve and another staircase, this time leading down. From here we head back to Dammlplatz at high speed, where spectators can cheer on the winners and, at the end, all participants.

The event will be freely accessible to everyone, and in the afternoon there will be lots of fun and spectacle for the youngest with the “VSS Raiffeisen Youth Trophy” (14.00 p.m.) and the VIP race at 19.00 p.m., in which members of the Italian skiing The national team, top athletes from other disciplines and South Tyrolean politicians will take part in support of the South Tyrolean Sports Aid.
