Marathon gold is awarded – South Tyroleans beaten off

Seewald ultimately celebrated a confident victory after 115 kilometers and 4500 meters in altitude. The German, who started the race as the reigning European champion and co-favorite, crossed the finish line after 6:02 hours and was around 2.24 minutes faster than the second-placed Colombian Diego Alfonso Arias Cuervo. The bronze medal went to the Portuguese Jose Dias (+5.31,3:XNUMX minutes).

Villandro's Fabian Rabensteiner, who had set a top 10 place as his minimum goal, had to settle for 16th place. The reigning Italian champions were 21.16 minutes behind the victorious Seewald. The 31-year-old was at the front for a long time and was even in fourth place at the beginning of the 3rd and final lap (after almost 80 kilometers). But then he collapsed and struggled with stomach problems. The best Azzurro this time was Samuele Porro in 4th place (+8). Jakob Dorigoni finished the race in 13.48rd place (+33). The 39.32-year-old from Pfatten was taking part in a marathon world championship for the first time and, above all, wanted to gain experience.

In the women's race, the victory went to Mona Mitterwallner from North Tyrol. After 23 km and 80 m in 3100:4 hours, the U48.54 cross-country European champion prevailed ahead of the Pole Maja Wloszczowska (+1.13). European marathon champion Natalia Fischer Egusquiza (+7.37) from Spain took bronze. The Azzurra Giada Specia had to be content with “sheet metal” (+10.38).

Cross triathlete Sandra Mairhofer was also there. The 29-year-old from Taisten had already achieved her mountain bike goal by taking part in this World Cup. The woman from Puster landed in a satisfactory 19th place (+33.42).

Marathon gold is awarded – South Tyroleans beaten off
